Host and Realtor, Diane Brennan of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Arizona Properties, has escaped the heat of the Valley and is in the cool pines of Payson, Arizona. On this episode, she tours a beautiful log home, talks remodeling loans, roof preparation for monsoon season and storage solutions for a home office. She also gives us a glimpse of the Phoenix Fire Department and what they do to keep the community safe.
The log cabin style home is listed at just under $1 million, although it is appraised at much more. Brennan says it is full of rustic charm combined with modern amenities. Set on top of a hill in Payson, Arizona the 46,000 square foot home has sweeping views in all directions, including majestic views of the Mogollon Rim. Brennan describes it as a tree house and says it is the perfect second home for a family to escape and relax.

From upgrading closets to homes, Diane talks to Jeramy Williams of Fairway Independent Mortgage about renovation loans. He explains the loans are a way for buyers to purchase a property they love, that needs some work and make it their dream home. Fairway can offer both FHA and Conventional loans for renovation.
FHA loans are government backed loans and require a minimum 3.5% down payment for the FHA loan or the renovation 203K loan. The Conventional renovation products require a minimum 5% down payment.
They buyer finds the home, makes an application to purchase the home, contacts contractors for estimates on the renovation costs and the bids are submitted. Fairway has a renovation team completely devoted to the process of renovation loans. The team works behind-the-scenes with the borrower and Fairway Mortgage to make sure all the steps in the process are complete and the process runs smoothly.

At Phoenix Fire Station 61, Diane visits with Phoenix Fire Department Captain Aaron Ernsberger to discuss the department and its first female fire chief, Chief Kara Kalkbrenner. The City of Phoenix has 1,600 active sworn members on the fire department with 400 members supporting that staff.
Phoenix has its first female fire chief, Chief Kara Kalkbrenner. She is described by Ernsberger as phenomenal; a great chief who takes care of the troops. He says it’s a challenging time to be any kind of a head figure with the economy flowing and changing and society and problems demanding and growing.
Diane talks roofs with Lori Clark, owner of Right Way Roofing to talk about the monsoon and how to be prepared. Lori recommends:
- Have an inspection, especially if the roof is over ten years old. Right Way offers no cost inspections.
- Get trees trimmed around the house. Leaves and debris from trees can clog gutters and limbs can fall on the roof.
- Check roof after a storm for missing shingles and broken tiles.
- Check ceilings for stains, blistering paint, and moisture intrusion.
If there is damage after a storm, Lori suggests calling Right Way Roofing first so they can come out and determine if a claim should be filed. If a claim is needed Right Way works with adjusters to help evaluate the damage, helping the homeowner to get a fair claim.
